Article: National Margarita Day

National Margarita Day

Did you know that the 22nd of February is National Margarita Day? It might still be winter, but enjoying a margarita always brings back summer vibes and those fond vacation memories. Just like BFyne’s bold and inspired collection, margaritas come in so many tantalizing colors and flavors. We’ve picked out five of our favorites with simple recipes for you to try out, wherever you are.

5 Must-Try Margarita Recipes

The only essential for margaritas is tequila – although some of the more “out there” recipes don’t even include that! All these recipes can be expanded to serve more than one – simply multiply the ingredients by the number of people having drinks. Why not make a couple of jugs of margaritas to brighten up your February?

The Classic Margarita

Celebrate National Margarita Day the traditional way with this Classic Margarita recipe that celebrates the hit of tequila and the sweet tang of lime.

Ingredients for 1

  • A double shot of tequil
  • A single shot of triple sec
  • The juice of one large lime
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges and coarse salt for garnish

The most iconic part of a margarita is the salt rim. Don’t forget to salt your rims first. You can’t go back and do it after the glass is full! Simply place your coarse salt on a plate or shallow dish. Sweep a fresh wedge of lime to coat it in lime juice. Dip the glass upside down into the salt. That’s it!

For your perfect classic margarita, simply mix all the ingredients together, put a few ice cubes into your salt-rimmed glass, add a fresh lime wedge, pour the margarita mix over and enjoy. The classic recipe blends sour, sweet, and salty flavors for a drink that’s thoroughly unique.

Sweet and Sexy – The Strawberry Margarita

Sweet, sugary strawberries perfectly balance out the alcohol kick of tequila. Don’t worry if fresh strawberries aren’t available – after all, they’re out of season at this time of year in most places. Frozen strawberries are just as good and widely available. This is a great recipe to make for a group to use up a bag of frozen berries.

Ingredients for 1

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • ½ cup crushed ice
  • The juice of one large lime
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • A double shot of tequila
  • A single shot of Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • Lime wedges for garnish

All of your ingredients need to go into a blender or food processor. Mix until smooth. A smoothie maker can usually handle this recipe, as long as the ice is already crushed. Pour into a glass, garnish with lime, and serve. For an extra sweet hit, rim your glasses with sugar crystals before filling them with your strawberry margarita mix.

A Margarita with a Kick – The Jalapeño Margarita

Spice lovers, this is the margarita for you. Jalapeño syrup brings a kick which is nicely balanced with a salty, sweet rim.

Ingredients for 1

  • Jalapeño syrup – to taste!
  • ½ cup each of sugar and salt for the rims
  • A double shot of tequila
  • A single shot of Triple Sec
  • Fresh slices of Jalapeño – remove the seeds!
  • Lime wheels or wedges to garnish

If you can’t get Jalapeño syrup, you can make your own by boiling 2 cups of sugar, 1 cup of water, 2 finely sliced Jalapeño peppers, and 2 tablespoons of salt. Stir until the sugar and salt dissolve, and boil for around 5 minutes. Cool for 30 minutes, then store in a bottle or other airtight container in the fridge. This syrup lasts for at least 2 weeks in the fridge – enough time to plan some margarita parties by the pool and show off your latest looks from the B Fyne swimwear collection.

Cool and Refreshing – The Cucumber Margarita

The most impressive part of this margarita is the long, thin slice of cucumber that encircles the glass. It takes a bit of care but looks fantastic if you can pull it off!

Ingredients for 1

  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (plain sugar syrup)
  • Crushed ice
  • ½ cup cucumber, chopped
  • A double shot of tequila
  • A single shot of Triple Sec
  • Coarse salt for the rim
  • A long slice of cucumber

The cucumber, tequila, syrup, Triple Sec, and ice go into the blender. Blending the cucumber should release enough fluid to fill a glass, but if not, top it up with a splash of lime juice or soda water. To put this drink together, salt the rim of a classic margarita glass. Take a whole cucumber. Use a knife to chop the ends off, then cut the cucumber in half lengthways. Use a vegetable peeler to take a long, thin strip of cucumber from the widest part, from one end to the other. Wrap this around the inside of the glass to line it, then add your cucumber margarita mix. It's intensely refreshing at any time of year.
